Looking for something fun to do over Winter Break?
Join us for our Winter Break Camps 2012 – 2013! Build LEGO structures, experiment with dry ice, unravel a “mystery” using forensic science, conduct cold-weather experiments and more! Our Winter Break Camps educate and entertain with day-long sessions for kids in grades K – 8.
Also, we’ve got great news! Our camp program officially earned accreditation from the American Camp Association! This means that we have recently met and exceeded more than 300 different standards related to safety, program operation, staff training and more. We are now the only Science Center day camp in the country that is ACA accredited!

ABOUT THE CAMPS
LEGO: Ultimate Builder
Join us for a full day of LEGO! Campers in grades K – 3 will practice their speed building, creative free building and work on a group project. Campers in grades 4 – 8 will design, program and build a robot while using sensors to make it react to its surroundings using LEGO NXT technology.
Science of Cool
Bring the snow inside and perform some amazing cold-weather, hands-on experiments with liquid nitrogen and dry ice. Learn about cryogenics and study very low temperatures (‑238° F and below). Watch the OMNIMAX film, Antarctica.
Astronomy Rocks!
Build a telescope and observe the night sky to identify stellar constellations. Create an edible meteor shower, devise a sundial and “astro-blast” a star to experience a supernova. Simulate a black hole, and explore the birth of a star as you discover the excitement and sizzle of astronomy. Watch the OMNIMAX film, Hubble.
Yuckology
Enjoy the stinkiest, slimiest, grossest camp ever! Explore the disgusting side of being an animal, plus learn why your body produces mushy, oozy, crusty, scaly and smelly gunk. Create a bird poop painting, edible scabs and slimes. Dissect a pellet of hair and bones regurgitated by a real owl (K – 3), while others dissect a cow eye (4 – 8). Watch the OMNIMAX film, The Human Body.
CSI: Case of the Finicky Flu
A mysterious illness has surfaced at the Science Center! Several counselors are exhibiting the same set of unusual symptoms and we need junior forensic scientists to unravel this mystery. Decipher the vital evidence by studying it in the laboratory, track down the cause of the mystery disease, find a treatment and relentlessly pursue any criminal activity you uncover during your investigation.
Wild Science
Did you know that frogs breathe through their skin or that they swallow using their eyes? Join us as we explore the wacky and wild world of frog and toad adaptations. See the special exhibition, Frogs: A Chorus of Colors, and take a behind-the-scenes tour to encounter more than 70 different species! Meet the frog keeper, explore the metamorphosis of bullfrog tadpoles and test your skill at scaling a wall using special suction cups! Enjoy the OMNIMAX film, Amazon.
Hidden Worlds: Micro Science
What would the world look like if you were micro-sized? Let’s explore nano and micro worlds! Find out what causes stinky feet, search for micro-sized particles, investigate ferrofluids and nanobots and collect and examine microorganisms under a hand lens and microscope. Enjoy the OMNIMAX film, Santa vs. The Snowman.
