GREAT LAKES SCIENCE CENTER’S
NEW SEASON OF OVERNIGHT CAMP-INS
PERFECT FOR SCOUT AND YOUTH GROUPS, FIELD TRIPS AND FAMILIES

December 4th, 2009

CLEVELAND (December 4, 2009) – Not many people can say they’ve spent the night in a museum, but Great Lakes Science Center guests can. January marks the kick-off of the “Water Wonders” Camp-In at the Science Center – a new season of overnight adventures that lets kids of all ages investigate the marvels of water in conjunction with the exhibition Water: H2O = Life.

From scout and youth groups to school groups and families, the “Water Wonders” experience has been designed to ensure a high-quality, educational and fun night for all. Programming even meets some badge requirements for Scouts. Participants spend the night among the exhibits after an evening of excitement and making new friends.

Highlights include a journey through the water cycle, microscopic examination of the life in a single drop of water and the H2Olympics. From testing water’s strength and making it walk a tight-rope, to a special showing of Mysteries of the Great Lakes on the giant OMNIMAX® screen and a tasty late-night snack, this after-dark experience provides hours of entertainment not to be found anywhere else.

“What makes the night so unforgettable are the intangibles – kids climbing into their sleeping bags next to the exhibits and watching an OMNIMAX movie in their pajamas,” said Emily Fletcher, manager of camps and classes. “They make new friends, play with the hands-on activities and wake up the next morning with the whole museum to themselves.”

The night begins with a welcome assembly after which participants dive into the wonderful world of water with hands-on workshops, demonstrations and an exploration of the museum, including the special exhibition Water: H2O = Life. Lights are turned off one by one at midnight after all are tucked in their sleeping bags. The next morning brings breakfast followed by a whole day to play at Great Lakes Science Center.

The Science Center also offers a “Water Wonders” Late Night program from 7 – 11:30 p.m. on Friday, March 17. This experience consists of everything included in an overnight except the sleepover and next day’s access to the museum.

Overnight programs are held Friday and Saturday nights from January – May and run 7 p.m. – 9:30 a.m. the following morning. Participants have access to the Science Center the entire next day. Cost is $39 per person ($24 for Late Night).

Dates are as follows:
