HISTORIC STEAMSHIP WILLIAM G. MATHER
KICKS OFF THE SEASON MAY 1
WITH FULL SCHEDULE OF EVENTS FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
April 16th, 2009 This spring and summer, guests will get the opportunity to discover what life was like aboard a working Great Lakes freighter, the William G. Mather. Guests will be able to explore the 1925-built Mather from bow to stern and see its huge cargo holds, brass and oak pilot house, elegant guest quarters and four-story engine room. Visitors can walk the decks and marvel at the “engineering firsts” that helped transform Northeast Ohio into a great industrial center.

Great Lakes Adventure Late Night (May 8; 7 – 11:30 p.m.)
Dive into a late-night adventure where families get to go on a tour of the Mather, learn how to navigate using GPS and compasses, participate in hands-on demonstrations, watch an OMNIMAX® film and much more! Cost is $24. Call 216-621-2400 to register.
Cargo Chats: Speaker Series (Summer and Fall 2009)
Join us for an informative and fun afternoon speaker series. Topics will highlight life on board the Mather, Great Lakes shipping, ecology and other relevant topics. Visit GreatScience.com for more details.
Rock and Boom (July 4; 6 p.m.)
Celebrate Independence Day in style from the decks of the Mather. Food and drinks can be purchased on board and fireworks will begin at dusk. Cost is $12. Call 216-621-2400 to register. The Science Center accepts walk-up registrations, but space is limited.
Air Show Deck Party (Sept. 5-7; 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.)
Get the best seats in the house and watch the 2009 Cleveland National Air Show on board the Mather. Food and drinks are available for purchase on board. Cost is $15 ($12 for members).
Happy Birthday, Captain Harry! (Sept. 2009)
Come celebrate the 100th birthday of the Mather captain, Harry Anderson. Hear stories of life aboard the Mather and watch as history comes to life!

The Steamship William G. Mather is open daily 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Friday – Sunday during May, September and October, and 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily during June, July and August. Tickets are available onsite and at Great Lakes Science Center’s box office. Cost is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, $4 for youths ages 5-17, and free for members. Due to its historic nature, the Mather has limited handicapped accessibility. Back to index |
