JOHN CARROLL UNIVERSITY HOSTING 60TH ANNUAL NORTHEASTERN OHIO SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIRFebruary 25th, 2013 CLEVELAND (February 25, 2013) – The Northeastern Ohio Science and Engineering Fair (NEOSEF) will hold its 60th annual fair March 4-7 at John Carroll University. This fair is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for burgeoning scientists and engineers to showcase their inquiry, research and presentation skills in an effort to win cash, recognition and an opportunity to compete internationally. One of the most rewarding aspects of NEOSEF is the opportunity for students to discuss their research with local scientists and engineers.
Approximately 600 students in grades 7-12 from more than 90 public, private and parochial schools in Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage and Summit counties will set up their science fair displays, discuss their projects with over 330 judges, and compete for almost $40,000 in prizes.
Students at the fair compete in nine categories that are subdivided by grade levels. NEOSEF awards one 1st place, and multiple 2nd place, 3rd place and honorable mentions per subdivision. NEOSEF then selects students to move on to the next levels of competition, The International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) and Broadcom MASTERS Program. NEOSEF selects up to four 9-12th grade grand-prize winners to attend ISEF where they compete with almost 1,500 students from all over the world for more than $4 million in scholarships and prizes.
Judging will take place March 5 from 3:15-5:45 pm. The fair will be open to the public on March 5 from 6:30-9 pm and March 7 from 3:30-6:30 pm. The awards ceremony will be March 7 from 6:30-9 pm.
