CLEVELAND (January 6, 2012) – Bring your sleeping bag and get ready to spend the night among your favorite exhibits! Great Lakes Science Center is hosting a variety of sleepovers for families and Scouts this winter and spring – from exploring the solar system and going on a late-night science adventure, to figuring out how to solve a crime.

“We’re always trying to engage our visitors and have them experience the world of science in unique ways, which is why we offer families and Scouts the opportunity to spend the night at the Science Center,” said Dante Centuori, director of creative productions at Great Lakes Science Center. “This year, we’re offering more variety of sleepovers than ever before, including a brand new ‘Under the Sea’ sleepover that is just for homeschooled students.”

All sleepovers start at 6 pm and are $39 per person. Each include a late-night snack, breakfast, parking and free general admission to the Science Center the next day. Register for these events by calling 216-621-2400 (Monday – Friday, 9 am – 5:30 pm). All youth 18 and under must be accompanied by an adult (or when applicable, a Scout Leader). Friday, January 27
Calling all scientists! This overnight adventure is one giant science experiment for the entire family! Enjoy a large-scale Big Science Show and perform hands-on experiments while exploring different branches of science. Finish the night by taking a journey under the sea in the OMNIMAX movie Coral Reef.

• Reach for the Stars
Friday, February 10
Learn about stars, meteors, comets, black holes and more! Build and launch a rocket, view a real moon rock, train to become an astronaut, sample soil from Mars and experience the STARLAB Planetarium. Explore space while watching the OMNIMAX movie, Hubble.

• NEW! Just for Homeschoolers: Under the Sea
Friday, February 17
Splish, splash, drip! Discover the amazing chemical and physical properties of water. Take an incredible journey through the water cycle and get ready to compete in the H2Olympics. Conduct dry ice experiments and make liquid nitrogen ice cream! View the OMNIMAX movie, Under the Sea.

• CSI Sleepover
Friday, May 11
Someone, or someTHING, has been disturbing the Science Center’s efforts to study a rare space rock. Crack a code and uncover the secrets to solve the case! Explore the Science Center in this wild and wacky hunt for adults and kids to do together. Analyze fingerprints and handwriting, measure blood splatter and bullet trajectories and perform DNA experiments to catch the culprit. Enjoy the OMNIMAX movie, Amazon.

JUST FOR SCOUTS:
• Boy Scout Sleepover: Robotics
Two dates offered! Saturday, February 25 and Friday, April 6
Using the latest in LEGO NXT technology, spend the evening designing, building, programming and challenging other robots in a series of mini-competitions that will test your speed, accuracy and ability. Learn advanced programming skills and come to win! Enjoy the OMNIMAX movie, Fighter Pilot: Operation Red Flag.

• Girl Scout Sleepover: Reach for the Stars

• Boy Scout Sleepover: Crime Scene Investigator
Saturday, March 24
More than a popular TV series, crime scene investigators use many aspects of science to crack important cases. Scouts will learn how to gather clues using real fingerprinting, fiber analysis and shoe prints. Once you master the steps, you get to solve your own “crime!”
