NORTHEASTERN OHIO SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIR WINNERS TO PRESENT AWARD-WINNING EXPERIMENTS AT GREAT LAKES SCIENCE CENTER

CLEVELAND (December 15, 2011) – Nuclear fusion, UAVs and social media will be just some of the featured topics when the students from the 2011 Northeast Ohio Science and Engineering Fair present and demonstrate their prize-winning projects at Great Lakes Science Center on Thursday, December 22 from 2 to 4 pm. The presentation is free with paid admission to the Science Center.

“We’re honored to sponsor NEOSEF and showcase the winning projects created by these students who are dedicated to the fields of science, technology and engineering,” said Dante Centuori, director of creative productions at Great Lakes Science Center. “We look forward to seeing the advances these students will make as they continue to explore science and work towards sustaining and improving the quality of life here in Northeast Ohio.”

Competing against approximately 600 other students from 100 Cleveland-area schools, these three young adults took the top prizes and will be at the Science Center to showcase their work:

“Pot Luck Runs Out: New Breed of UAVs to Tackle Illegal Drug Farms”
Anands Homeschool Academy
Grade 7 – 8 Engineering
First Prize and Grand Prize Winner in Physical Sciences

• Rachel Anand
“The Two Faces of Teens: The Effect of Social Media on Young Adults”
Anands Homeschool Academy
Grade 9 – 10 Behavioral Science
First Prize Winner in Biological Sciences

• William Jack
“D+D Fusion Reactions in an Inertial Electrostatic Confinement Fusion Reactor”
Hudson High School
Grade 9 – 10 Physics
First Prize and Grand Prize Winner in Physical Sciences
Jack was also awarded $1000 from the Coalition for Plasma Science when he competed in the International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles last May.
