Mather Experience Specialist (Part-time)

The Steamship William G. Mather Museum at the Great Lakes Science Center is looking for outgoing, enthusiastic and inquisitive individuals to deliver educational programming and interact with the nearly 30,000 annual visitors for our restored historic boat. The Mather Experience Specialists are the first line of visitor interaction and are instrumental in providing a high-quality experience in a fun and inviting atmosphere. Specialists must be comfortable interacting with individuals and groups ranging in size from 1-25 people, diverse backgrounds and working onboard in all weather conditions. These positions report to the Education Coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Present programming and visitor interactions, including group and station tours, in an engaging and educational manner.
Perform daily operational duties, including, but not limited to, maintaining an inviting atmosphere, preparing stations for visitors and ensuring museum and exhibits are clean and free of obstructions.
Positively represent the Mather Museum and Great Lakes Science Center by being professional and guest-service oriented in all interactions with our visitors and their representatives.
Actively demonstrate safe practices in programs and exhibit areas.
Assist with development and training of staff, as needed.


QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma. Some college education and training in education, history, theater and/or equivalent work experience in educational programming, history or teaching preferred. Must have exceptional interpersonal and verbal communication skills and demonstrate enthusiasm, flexibility and openness to new ideas. Must be willing and able to work in rain or shine, and be able to traverse open decks, navigating steep stairways and high door thresholds. Weekend, holiday and some evening availability is required.
