Family Science: Science of Flight
Saturday, January 26
2 – 3:30 pm

The sky's the limit as we "take off" to learn the science behind flight. Check out Bernoulli's principle as we investigate how insects, migrating birds and even humans command the sky. Build your own rocket and see how science can really soar!

Family Science: Mummification Mysteries
Saturday, February 9
2 – 3:30 pm

The practice of mummification has been around for millennia, involving chemicals and natural processes in the preservation of bodies. Study the techniques of the ancients and discover how organic materials may be preserved for posterity.

Family Science: Carbonation Creation
Saturday, March 9
2 – 3:30 pm

Pop, pop, fizz, fizz… oh, how scientific it is! Learn all about the science of carbonation, how it is created and the role it plays in our everyday lives. Get hands-on with carbonation as we put it to the test with some messy science experiments.

Family Science: Where No Visitor Has Gone Before…
Saturday, April 13
10 – 11:30 am

Go where no visitor has gone before as we show you the ins and outs of our six-story OMNIMAX Theatre. Get a behind-the-scenes tour of the theater, projector, console and more! Conclude with a public viewing of an OMNIMAX movie at noon.

Family Science: Journey into Space
Saturday, May 11
10 – 11:30 am

Blast off into space as you spend the day learning about stars, meteors, comets, black holes and more! Build and launch a rocket, view a real moon rock, train to become an astronaut, sample “soil” from Mars and experience the STARLAB Planetarium. Finish the day by exploring the first phase of our brand-new NASA Glenn Visitor Center galleries!

Family Science Dissection Series
Every Sunday in April
2 – 3:30 pm

Explore. Discover. Dissect. These dissection workshops are designed for families who want to explore anatomy UP CLOSE in an exciting and hands-on learning environment. Sign up for one class or all four!

April 7 – Starfish: Learn basic echinoderm anatomy and gain understanding of this invertebrate.
April 14 – Frog: Discover why frogs are the best teaching tool as an introduction to human anatomy.
April 21 – Rat: Study the anatomy of the white rat, which is similar in composition to a human!
April 28 – Shark: Dissect a small shark and learn to identify its anatomical parts to understand how it swims, eats and respires.



Workshop Details:

  • $16 ($5 members) per adult/child pair.
  • Workshops require parent participation and are recommended for children 6 years of age or older. Additional adult or child is $3.
  • Includes admission to Great Lakes Science Center.
