Opening Gala Special Event

You’re invited to celebrate the opening of Lost Egypt: Ancient Secrets, Modern Science with an Egyptian-themed gala at Great Lakes Science Center! This special evening includes cocktails, dinner, guest speaker Dr. John S. Nolan of Ancient Egypt Research Associates, access to tour Lost Egypt before it opens to the public, photo opportunities with themed-décor, live camel, belly dancers and a special showing of the OMNIMAX film, Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs.

Guests will receive complimentary parking in the attached garage. Themed-attire is encouraged.

Have you ever wanted to spend the night in a museum? Here’s your chance! Someone – or some thing – has been tampering with a rare Egyptian artifact, and it’s up to you to solve the case! Analyze fingerprints, decipher hieroglyphics, perform DNA analysis and catch the culprit! Includes admission to the Lost Egypt exhibition and the OMNIMAX movie, Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs. Don’t forget your sleeping bag!

All sleepovers start at 6 pm and include late-night snack, light breakfast, parking and free general admission to the Great Lakes Science Center the entire next day. Recommended for ages 6 – 12. All youth must be accompanied by adult. $39 per person. Call 216-621-2400 to reserve today!

Family Science: Mummification Mysteries

Bring the whole family for a great learning experience! Have you ever wondered about mummies? The practice of mummification has been around for millennia, involving chemicals and natural processes in the preservation of bodies. Study the techniques of the ancients, and discover how organic materials may be preserved for posterity. Workshops require parent participation and are recommended for children 6 years of age or older. $16 ($5 members) per adult/child pair. Includes admission to Great Lakes Science Center. Lost Egypt: Ancient Astronomy
Presidents Day Kids’ Camp

8:30 am – 3:30 pm

Explore ancient tools used by Egyptians to understand the cosmos. Make sundials and astrolabes as you learn how ancient Egyptians studied the universe. Experience the STARLAB Planetarium, explore the brand-new exhibition, Lost Egypt, and watch the OMNIMAX movie, Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs. Grades K-8. $42 ($39 members). Homeschool Workshop: Lost Egypt, Modern Science
Tuesday, February 19
1 – 2:30 pm

Learn about funerary rituals in Egypt, inspect linen wrappings and discover how modern technology helps to un-wrap the mysteries of mummies! Try Egyptian hieroglyphs, experiment with mummification techniques and learn how modern technology brings life to an ancient time. Ages 6-12. $10. Fee includes participation for one child/adult pair and general admission to Great Lakes Science Center. Additional adult or child is $3. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. LEGO Workshop: Egyptian Adventure – 2 sessions available!
Saturday, March 2
9 am – noon (morning session)
1 – 4 pm (afternoon session)

Archaeologists just discovered the tomb of an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh that is designed to keep out unwanted visitors! Navigate the terrain by building and programming a robot to look for treasures in the booby-trapped tomb. Grades 4-8. $20 ($15 members).
