Girl Scout Programs


Did you know that Great Lakes Science Center has fun programs and workshops specifically designed for Girl Scouts? Whether you’re coming on a group visit, spending the night at one of our cool sleepovers or enjoying one of our workshops, you’ll learn about science and have fun at the same time!


It’s Girl Scout Day!
Saturday, March 10

Bring your Girl Scout group to the Science Center for a day of fun workshops! Each workshop is 1.5 hours and participants will receive a corresponding badge upon their completion of the workshop.

Register by calling 216-621-2400 (Monday – Friday, 9 am – 5:30 pm). Walk-up registration will also be available on the day of the event.

Brownie Badge Workshop: Home Scientist
10 am   
Complete the brand-new “Home Scientist” badge! Learn to be a kitchen scientist, create static electricity, dive into density, create bubbles from dry ice and experiment with all things science! $10 per Scout. All youth 18 and under must be accompanied by a Scout Leader or adult.

Brownie Badge Workshop: Inventor
12 pm
Complete the brand-new “Inventor” badge! Ever wonder what it takes to come up with a new kind of phone or a new way to power a light bulb? Warm up your inventor’s mind and discover new ways to solve the same problem. Develop a needs list, solve a problem and share your invention with the group! $10 per Scout. All youth 18 and under must be accompanied by a Scout Leader or adult.

Science Center Sleepovers (Brownies, Juniors and Cadettes)
Girl Scout ONLY Nights.

Ever wonder what it’s like to spend the night in a museum? Here’s your chance! Come explore the Science Center after dark, interact with hundreds of exhibits, visit the NASA Glenn Visitor Center, watch a special OMNIMAX movie on our giant screen, participate in fun hands-on activities and science demonstrations, and then grab your sleeping bag and spend the night!

Reach for the Stars – two dates offered!
Friday, March 2; 6 pm
Friday, March 16; 6 pm

Learn about stars, meteors, comets, black holes and more! Build and launch a rocket, view a real moon rock, train to become an astronaut, sample soil from Mars and experience the STARLAB Planetarium. Explore space while watching the OMNIMAX movie, Hubble.

NEW! Robotics for Girl Scouts – ADDED BY POPULAR DEMAND!
Friday, April 20
6 pm

Join us for a night of robots and fun! Using the latest in LEGO NXT technology, spend the evening designing, building, programming and challenging other robots in a series of mini-competitions that will test your speed, accuracy and ability. Learn advanced programming skills and come to win! Afterwards, enjoy the OMNIMAX movie, Born to be Wild, and explore the museum after dark. All youth 18 and under must be accompanied by a Scout Leader or an adult.

Sleepovers start at 6 pm. Includes tasty late-night snacks, breakfast the next morning and free general admission to the Science Center the next day. $39 per person.

Late Night Event: Crime Scene Investigator – two dates offered!
Saturday, February 18 / 6 – 11:30 pm
Friday, April 13 / 6 – 11:30 pm

More than a popular TV series, crime scene investigators use many aspects of science to crack important cases. Scouts will learn how to gather clues using real fingerprinting, fiber analysis and shoe prints. Once you master the steps, you get to solve your own “crime!” Open to Scouts of all ages. Fulfills requirements for the brand new Cadette “Special Agent” badge. $24.

Group Rates for Day Trips

Bring your group and explore Great Lakes Science Center at a discounted group rate! Add an OMNIMAX movie, special exhibition, a tour of the Mather Steamship and/or a special science demonstration for your group. Call 216-621-2400 to register your group today (must have 10 or more in your group for the group rate to apply).


Each workshop is tailored to help Scouts complete all or most of the required activities for a badge and includes admission to Great Lakes Science Center and NASA Glenn Visitor Center. All youth 18 and under must be accompanied by a Scout Leader or adult for these events.
